Capabilities

Amphenol CTI has focused over the decades to develop and optimize a set of capabilities to address our target industries. Through the development of these capabilities, we have been able to meet and exceed our customer requirements addressing functionality and quality while improving throughput and process improvements.

Many of our customers have unique requirements and, in some situations, end use requirements are evolving which require new manufacturing capabilities. Amphenol CTI has the means and desire to expand on our existing capabilities to meet those needs.

In addition, we have developed our capabilities to support scalable manufacturing and the ability to transfer builds between sites to address customer needs as well as security of supply.

Integrated Technologies

Automated Wire Processing

  • Automated and semi-automated cut, strip, crimp, and seal application
  • Automated Tinning application

Wire Marking

  • Ink Jet and hot stamp wire marking
  • Wire marking tags, flags, sleaves, tape and labels based on customer requirements.

Harness Build Methods

  • Quick Turn Prototypes builds are often done by skilled operators on tabletops using build to print.
  • Most harnesses are built as board builds with either electrified or non-electrified layout boards.
  • Some applications are well suited to E-Boards because of their complexity and volume. Electronic Boards eliminate the need to develop a unique physical layout/ build fixture.

Welding & Soldering

  • Ultrasonic and Mechanical Splicing
  • Soldering and tinning applications

Braiding

  • Many harsh environments or rugged applications require braiding to protect the harness in its intended application.
  • Braiding often results in a smaller harness diameter.
  • We offer various braid types with various braid density and can meet specific customer needs for trace color application.

Bundling

  • If Braiding is not required, we offer many other methods of bundling methods with the most popular being tape, tie wrap, loose sleeve, expandable braid, spiral wrap, and convolute tube.

Potting

  • We have several customers who require potting due to the environment that the assembly / harness will be used. In many cases potting is used to address interconnect or components that don’t have a water/dust proof offering or where space constraints limit traditional waterproof backshells.

Over-molding

  • We offer custom overmold solutions to address customer applications and to provide aesthetically robust solutions for customer interfaces.
  • We offer soft tooled and hard tooled solutions to balance the tooling cost with the volume requirements of the application.

Test Capabilities

Electrical Test

  • Electrical functionality is tested on all assemblies and the method in which an assembly or harness is tested is determined based on the attributes of the product and the batch size of the production runs.

Universal Test Stations

  • Universal test stations are broadly used for high mix and complex products, offering 100% test at a lower set up cost. It also offers a more flexible test process for product requiring frequent revisions or products in development.

Electrified layout boards (3d print)

  • Electrified layout boards are often used for higher volume and/ or les complex products that are stable designs to improve throughput. This method requires a higher cost set up that utilizes mating connectors or 3D printed mating modules with pogo pin interfaces.

Handheld wireless test

  • Handheld wireless test is an ideal solution for harnesses that are very long and prevents the handling challenges that go with using a universal test station.
  • This test method has been initially developed for our transportation industry customers where harnesses can range from 30ft to 70ft long.

Engineering / Quality Monitoring

2D and 3D design capabilities – ACAD, Solid works, Pro-E, Visio, Arcadia

In house crimp validation and cross-section lab for USCAR 21 applications

  • Used for specific customer standards to validate First Article / PPAP
  • Used for evaluating new products and new processes before implementing in production.

RTMS Real Time Management System

  • Networking for automatic crimp process including material verification, setup validation, production data collection, work order scheduling, tool life monitoring, maintenance scheduling, etc.

Training Systems

  • In house training systems to improve the learning curve and production deployment
  • Certified IPC 620 trainers in house and all operators trained to IPC 620
  • Our practices are based on APQP and APICS

Sourcing Capabilities

Global Sourcing

  • Amphenol CTI leverages our global footprint for sourcing materials.

Internal Amphenol Sourcing

  • At Amphenol CTI, we have the ability to leverage internal Amphenol divisions to secure interconnect when Amphenol connectors are specified on a customer’s bill of material or to offer Amphenol alternatives for potential cost reductions or production agility.

Diverse Manufacturer Sourcing

  • Amphenol CTI is in a unique position compared to many of our competitors. We can leverage our internal resources at Amphenol, the second largest interconnect supplier in the world, but we are not obligated to use Amphenol Product.
  • We have strong supply relationships with many of the industries top interconnect manufacturers ensuring we can build to print and to the customers approved AVL while still offering value add alternatives when required.
